Job summary

Wilkinson Veterinary Clinic in Premont, Texas is seeking a compassionate veterinary assistant/technician to join our four-veterinarian team. You will assist with restraining animals, collecting samples, imaging, surgeries, and patient care to a diverse animal population.

We offer hands-on and virtual training, a family-oriented environment, and benefits. Experience is helpful, but we are willing to train the right candidate and value reliability and teamwork.

Qualifications

• CVT/RVT/LVT credentials are a plus.

• Able to lift at least 40 pounds and work in varying conditions.

Responsibilities

• Safely restrain animals and assist with patient triage.
• Collect, prepare, and process lab samples (blood, urine, fecal, skin).
• Perform diagnostic imaging and assist radiography; dental radiography is a plus.
• Support surgical procedures, prepare patients, monitor anesthesia.
• Administer medications and provide nursing care for hospitalized patients.
• Monitor patient conditions and communicate updates to the team.
• Maintain accurate medical records and client histories.
• Communicate care plans professionally to clients and help maintain hospital flow.
• Cross-train in departments and assist wherever needed.

Our Premont location has a sister clinic in Alice, just 30 minutes away. Together, our clinics offer an almost entirely mixed-animal practice, caring for horses, cattle, dogs, cats, sheep, goats, pigs, deer, exotic game, pocket pets, and occasionally birds and reptiles. No two days are exactly alike!

Our four-veterinarian team is supported by more than 30 dedicated team members, many of whom have been with us for years. We offer a wide range of veterinary services, including wellness care, surgery, dentistry, reproductive care, stem cell therapy, laser therapy, shockwave therapy, plasmon therapy, and diagnostic imaging with digital X-ray technology.

You’ll work alongside our veterinarians and experienced support staff to provide compassionate, high-quality care to a diverse range of patients. Responsibilities include:

• Safely restraining animals and assisting with patient triage.
• Collecting, preparing, and processing laboratory samples, including blood, urine, fecal, and skin samples.
• Performing diagnostic imaging and positioning patients for radiographs; dental radiography experience is a plus.
• Supporting surgical procedures, preparing patients, and monitoring anesthesia.
• Administering medications and providing nursing care for hospitalized patients with varying medical needs.
• Monitoring patient conditions and communicating important updates to the veterinary team.
• Maintaining accurate medical records and documenting client and patient histories.
• Communicating professionally with clients about care plans and helping maintain efficient hospital flow.
• Cross-training in different departments and assisting where needed to support the team.

Qualifications

• Experience preferred but not required. We are willing to train the right candidate!
• Previous veterinary or animal-handling experience is helpful; CVT, RVT, or LVT credentials are a plus.

• Reliability, punctuality, and readiness to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Availability to work weekends and holidays as needed.
• Ability to lift at least 40 pounds and work in both hot and cold conditions.
• Ability to tolerate strong odors, loud noises, animal waste, and potential exposure to bites, scratches, and contagious diseases.
