Job summary

Marion Veterinary Hospital in Ocala, FL seeks an experienced Veterinary Assistant to support small animal care, triage patients, collect samples, and assist with imaging and anesthesia.

A minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience is preferred; must be able to restrain pets and communicate treatment plans effectively.

Responsibilities

• Restrain pets as needed and triage incoming patients.
• Collect and analyze lab samples; perform diagnostic imaging.
• Assist in medical and hospitalized patient care; administer medications.
• Prepare for surgeries and assist with anesthesia management.
• Effectively communicate treatment plans with clients.

Marion Veterinary Hospital is the longest standing small animal practice in Ocala, Florida. We are a progressive, high-quality two doctor practice focusing on small animals, pocket pets, reptiles, and birds. Services we offer include preventative care, soft tissue surgery, dentistry, emergency and urgent care, in-house diagnostics, digital full body and dental radiology, acupuncture, boarding, and grooming. We are proud to be the only AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) accredited practice in Ocala! Our goal is to provide comprehensive and compassionate care for each patient and to effectively communicate with every pet parent. We work closely with the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Florida-Gainesville (UF) for more complex medical and surgical cases. Locally, we refer after-hours emergencies to PETS (Pet Emergency Treatment Services), an overnight, weekend and holiday emergency hospital staffed by UF clinicians, residents, students, and staff.

Marion Veterinary Hospital is located in Ocala, the seat of Marion County, in north central Florida. We are the "Horse Capital of the World" and the countryside is filled with gently rolling hills and pastures. Pet restraint, triage incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients, surgical preparation and assistance, and anesthetic management.

Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.

Qualifications

• An experienced Veterinary Assistantwith a minimum of 1-year experience preferred.
• Compassionate, Calm, Team Player, Multi-Tasker and Strong Communicator
• Must be able to properly restrain pets.
• Proficient in sample collection, obtaining medical histories, processing laboratory tests and radiographs, andanesthesia monitoring are a bonus!
• Self-starter with the desire to continue to advance your knowledge and skillset.

Additional Information

Pay Range:$15.00-$18.00 per hour
