Job summary

Animal Emergency Clinic of Mid-Maine is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our daytime weekend team. This role offers weekend daytime shifts with options for part-time or full-time schedules in a fast-paced emergency setting.

You’ll triage, assist with exams and surgeries, perform venipuncture and imaging, and maintain meticulous records while collaborating with a supportive, skilled team.

Qualifications

  • Credentialed Veterinary Technician status (CVT, LVT, or RVT) or significant hands-on experience.
  • Minimum prior experience in a veterinary hospital, preferably in emergency medicine.
  • Ability to venipuncture, IV catheter placement, lab procedures, and diagnostic imaging.
  • Clear communication with clients and coworkers; strong documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Triage emergency patients and obtain histories and vitals.
  • Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, surgical procedures and emergencies.
  • Provide nursing care from intake through discharge.
  • Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, fluid therapy, and diagnostic sampling.
  • Obtain high-quality diagnostic radiographs and run in-house tests.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and keep areas clean and organized.

Role: Daytime Weekend Veterinary Technician

Status: Part-time or full-time

Salary: Negotiable and based on experience

Schedule: Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m. Full-time schedules also include one weekday overnight shift.

Animal Emergency Clinic of Mid-Maine is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our daytime weekend team. We are an after-hours small animal emergency hospital that provides critical veterinary care 365 days a year when regular practices are closed.

Our five veterinarians rotate shifts throughout the week and weekend, with each emergency shift typically supported by two to three veterinarians and seven to ten technicians. You’ll work alongside an experienced, collaborative team in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly and every team member plays an essential role.

Emergency clinics are limited throughout Maine, making this a unique opportunity for an experienced Veterinary Technician who is ready to expand their skills and begin—or continue—a career in emergency medicine.

What Our Veterinary Technicians Do
  • Triage emergency patients and obtain thorough medical histories, vital signs, and patient assessments
  • Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, surgical procedures, and emergency interventions
  • Provide compassionate nursing care from patient intake through discharge
  • Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, fluid therapy, and diagnostic sample collection
  • Prepare and administer medications and treatments as directed
  • Obtain high-quality diagnostic radiographs
  • Perform in-house laboratory testing, including CBCs, chemistry panels, urinalysis, cytology, and fecal testing
  • Prepare patients and equipment for emergency surgical procedures
  • Assist with surgical preparation, monitoring, recovery, and instrument care
  • Monitor anesthesia and patient vital signs while maintaining complete and accurate records
  • Provide ongoing patient monitoring and supportive care, including TPRs, pain scoring, and wound care
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients regarding patient care, medications, and discharge instructions
  • Maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation
  • Keep treatment and exam areas clean, organized, stocked, and ready for emergency cases
  • Follow hospital infection-control and safety protocols
  • Collaborate closely with veterinarians and teammates to maintain an efficient hospital workflow
What You’ll Bring
  • Credentialed Veterinary Technician status (CVT, LVT, or RVT) or significant hands-on Veterinary Technician experience
  • Previous experience in a veterinary hospital
  • Interest in learning and practicing emergency medicine
  • Confidence with venipuncture, IV catheter placement, laboratory procedures, and diagnostic imaging
  • Experience with anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery
  • Experience assisting with surgery and providing attentive patient nursing care
  • Ability to accurately triage patients and obtain thorough medical histories
  • Strong knowledge of pharmacology and medication administration

  • Clear and empathetic communication with clients and coworkers
