Job summary

Brittmoore Animal Hospital in Houston, TX is hiring a Veterinary Technician to join our AAHA-accredited small animal practice. You will monitor anesthesia, assist with surgery, educate clients, and provide compassionate nursing care from intake to discharge.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Veterinary Technician.
  • Strong technical skills, including venipuncture, catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, and laboratory procedures.
  • Confidence assisting with surgery and dentistry.
  • Knowledge of preventive care, vaccines, and patient nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Triage patients and obtain medical histories, vital signs, and assessments.
  • Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, and procedures.
  • Provide nursing care from intake through discharge.
  • Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, and treatments.
  • Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, fluid therapy, and sample collection.
  • Obtain diagnostic radiographs.
  • Perform in-house lab testing (CBCs, chemistry, urinalysis, cytology, fecal tests).
  • Prepare patients for surgery and dentistry; assist with anesthesia.
  • Monitor vitals and provide nursing care during hospitalization.
  • Educate clients about medications, treatment plans, and preventive care.
  • Maintain medical records and keep areas clean and stocked.
  • Collaborate with hospital team to provide excellent care.

What Our Veterinary Technicians Do

  • Triage patients and obtain thorough medical histories, vital signs, and patient assessments
  • Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, and procedures
  • Provide compassionate nursing care from patient intake through discharge
  • Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed
  • Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, fluid therapy, and sample collection
  • Obtain high-quality diagnostic radiographs
  • Perform in-house laboratory testing, including CBCs, chemistry panels, urinalysis, cytology, and fecal testing
  • Prepare patients for surgery and dentistry while assisting with anesthesia monitoring and recovery
  • Monitor patient vitals and provide attentive nursing care throughout hospitalization
  • Practice low-stress patient handling techniques whenever possible
  • Educate clients about medications, treatment plans, discharge instructions, and preventive care
  • Maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation
  • Keep treatment and exam areas clean, organized, and well stocked
  • Collaborate with the entire hospital team to provide exceptional patient care and client service
