Job description

If so - consider a career as veterinary technician at Compass Veterinary Neurology and Imaging. Our practice is a part of Chesapeake Veterinary Referral Center (CVRC) in Annapolis. CVRC is a shared facility that encompasses specialists in emergency, oncology, cardiology, surgery, neurology, internal medicine, and ophthalmology.

We are a privately-owned neurology, neurosurgery and imaging practice looking for a full-time Veterinary Technician with 2+ years experience to join our team. Our practice treats patients with complex and multi-faceted health issues, which makes it an ideal environment for technicians who like to be challenged and learn on a daily basis. Because of the multiple facets of our practice, time management skills are of utmost importance.

The ideal candidate for this role also enjoys teaching/mentoring other staff members and has excellent communication skills. This person will foster an environment of professional growth and success. The candidate should be able to pivot quickly with changing information and act accordingly without becoming frustrated or overwhelmed. Conversely, this person should also know when to ask for help and, moreover, that asking for help is encouraged at our practice.

From a clinical perspective, top candidates will have experience in all of the following areas, including, but not limited to:

  • Appointment intake, history taking, and discharge.
  • Patient restraint, vital assessment, and IV catheter placement.
  • Inpatient care including management of IV fluid pumps/lines, administration of oral and intravenous medications, and manual bladder expression.
  • Anesthesia induction and intubation, monitoring, record keeping, knowledge of common anesthetic medications.
  • CRI calculations, sterile technique, and operating room preparation.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a specialty hospital setting, or in a position with a high surgical caseload.

The hours are rotating shifts Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:30am – 7:00pm. Rotating weekend and holiday availability is required.

Responsibilities

  • Handle and restrain animals safely while ensuring their comfort.
  • Administer medications, vaccinations, and perform catheterizations as needed.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and communicate effectively with pet owners.
  • Manage laboratory samples and assist in diagnostic procedures.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of the veterinary facility, adhering to safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with veterinary staff to optimize patient care and workflow.
