Job summary

Goddard Veterinary Group in Plaistow is seeking a Veterinary Surgeon for a full-time role. You will provide a comprehensive GP service, manage a varied caseload and work within a supportive network that includes Wanstead Veterinary Hospital for internal referrals and 24-hour backup.

We value confident clinicians who enjoy client relationships and are keen on developing skills in surgery and dentistry within a busy first-opinion practice. Training and team backing are strong.

In the heart of East London, Plaistow is a well-established Goddard practice with a loyal local client base, a varied GP caseload and a team who know how to keep things moving when the day gets busy.

We're looking for a Veterinary Surgeon to join the team on a full-time basis. If you enjoy the variety of first-opinion practice, like getting to know your clients and their pets, and want the support of a nearby 24-hour hospital when you need it, this could be your next move.

About your new role!

Our Plaistow practice has supported the local community for many years, providing a wide range of diagnostic, medical and surgical care.

We're looking for a vet who is confident working in a busy GP environment, enjoys building strong relationships with clients and is happy to get stuck into a varied caseload.

You'll be joining a collaborative team who communicate openly and support one another through the busy days as well as the quieter ones.

Plaistow is also ISFM accredited, reflecting the team's commitment to excellent feline welfare.

For those with an interest in diagnostics, the practice has digital and dental X-ray alongside ultrasound facilities, giving you plenty of opportunity to develop your clinical interests.

And when you need additional support, you're never far from it. Wanstead Veterinary Hospital provides advanced clinical support, internal referrals, OOH care and hospitalisation, giving you the reassurance of a 24-hour hospital network without requiring you to work across multiple practices.

What are we looking for?

We're looking for a vet who can confidently provide a full GP service and enjoys the variety that first-opinion practice brings.

A particular interest in surgery and dentistry would be a bonus, as these are areas where the practice has a strong caseload and the facilities to support you, including dental X-ray.

As a veterinary surgeon, some of your duties will include:

• Carry out consultations, thoroughly examining all pets presented and making management and treatment recommendations based on best practice, evidence and GVG protocols.
• Perform GP surgery within your personal competence and clinical limitations.
• Maintain, prescribe and dispense medications in accordance with current medicines legislation and RCVS guidance.
• Record accurate and thorough clinical notes and ensure patient histories are comprehensive and useful to colleagues.
• Refer cases in a timely manner when further investigation or treatment is required, with access to Wanstead Veterinary Hospital for internal referral.
• Build strong and trusting relationships with clients and their pets.
• Help maintain a respectful, supportive and collaborative team environment.

This is a full-time role averaging 40 hours per week, including:

1:4 branch Saturday rotation
1:8 Sunday rotation at Wanstead Veterinary Hospital

There is a last resolt only ON CALL requirement for this role which is very rarely used and we'd be happy to discuss in more detail with you.

Approximately 6 of the rota'd Saturday shifts per year have an add on shift 6-9:30pm in Wanstead (Twilight) to help assist with night handover, this is included in average contracted weekly hours.

You will be required to cover 2 bank holidays per year.

Plaistow is surrounded by excellent transport links, making it an easy commute from across East London and beyond.

Plaistow and Upton Park stations are both nearby, providing access to the District and Hammersmith & City lines and straightforward connections across London.

And when you do need the additional support of Wanstead Veterinary Hospital, it's all part of the same wider Goddard team.

Our veterinary salary band is £55,000 to £72,000 FTE, depending on prior experience and allowing room for professional growth within the role. Due to the nature of the role and this role is not suitable for a new graduate.
