Job summary

PVESC in Portland, Maine, is seeking a Veterinary SMR Technician - Rehabilitation to join a new rehabilitation facility and work with our Board-Ccertified Veterinarian in Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation. You’ll support post-operative recovery, orthopedic care, sports conditioning, and neuromuscular rehab as part of a dedicated team.

The role emphasizes mobility restoration, quality of life improvements, and a path to professional growth within veterinary rehabilitation.

Qualifications

  • ME technician license in good standing or transferable CVT/RVT
  • Additional training in canine rehabilitation preferred but not required (CCRP, CCRT, CCAT, VTS)
  • 1–3 yrs experience working as an LVT or CVT preferred
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work with a collaborative and integrative team, frequently with surgery and neurology

Responsibilities

  • Assist with lameness workups including vital signs, IV catheters, sedation monitoring, imaging, labs, and joint injections
  • Restrain and transfer patients up to 50 lbs with skilled support
  • Provide prescribed physical rehabilitation and nursing care for inpatients and outpatients
  • Assemble and fit assistive devices like canine carts and Help ’Em Up harnesses
  • Perform prescribed physical modalities such as underwater treadmill, laser therapy, and shockwave
  • Order, restock, and maintain rehabilitation supplies and equipment

Anticipated Schedule

This is a full-time position working four 10-hour weekdays

  • Example: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 8:00 AM - 6:30 PM (may vary)
  • Flexibility is appreciated as we grow our service
  • Some holidays are required
Compensation
  • Pay range $25-$38+, commensurate with experience and licensure
  • Eligible for up to $5000.00 sign-on bonus

SMR Technician Qualifications:
  • ME technician license in good standing or transferable CVT/RVT

Job Requirements:
  • Assist with lameness workups including obtaining vital signs, placing IV catheters, administering and monitoring sedation, obtaining diagnostic imaging, collecting and submitting lab samples, and facilitating interventional procedures such as joint injections
  • Safely restrain and transfer patients of all sizes and physical abilities (some will be unable to stand or move without substantial support) – must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Provide prescribed physical rehabilitation, and excellent nursing care for inpatients and outpatients
  • Assemble and fit assistive devices such as canine carts and Help ‘Em Up harnesses to promote independent mobility
  • Perform prescribed physical modalities such as underwater treadmill, laser therapy and shockwave
  • Order, restock, and maintain supplies and rehabilitation equipment
