Apply Now Latitude is seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Veterinary Regulatory Counsel to support the legal department of our client, a leading pet retailer offering integrated veterinary services, wellness products, and community-based pet care initiatives, on an engagement flex basis. This role is ideal for an attorney with specialized experience in veterinary medicine law, who understands the unique regulatory challenges of operating within a multi-state, retail-based veterinary service model. In this role, the attorney will provide strategic legal guidance on regulatory compliance and represent the client before state veterinary boards, administrative agencies and other relevant regulatory authorities.

The attorney will work alongside the client's in-house legal team to assist on a broad portfolio of regulatory, compliance, and operational legal issues related to the delivery of veterinary care within a retail environment.

Key Responsibilities of Veterinary Regulatory Counsel (Part-Time, Remote):

In this role, the attorney will work closely with the client’s in-house legal team to:
  • Advise on state and federal veterinary practice regulations, licensing requirements, controlled substance rules (DEA), and professional ethics standards.
  • Represent the client before veterinary boards, administrative agencies, and other relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts related to veterinary services, partnerships, and strategic collaborations.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis on veterinary regulations and related legal matters.
  • Assist in developing and implementing compliance programs to ensure alignment with federal and state regulatory requirements.
  • Support the client in responding to investigations, disciplinary actions, and administrative hearings.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and industry developments to deliver proactive legal guidance.
Qualifications for Veterinary Regulatory Counsel (Part-Time, Remote):
  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 5+ years of legal experience, with a strong focus on animal health laws, veterinary practice regulations, and compliance issues.
  • Direct experience advising or representing veterinary professionals or companies subject to state veterinary practice acts.
  • Knowledge of the corporate practice of veterinary medicine (CPVM), licensing structures, and veterinary telemedicine regulations.
  • Experience interacting with state veterinary medical boards and administrative regulatory bodies.
  • Exceptional legal writing, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Strong commitment to client service and advocacy.

Compensation:
Pay: The annualized pay for this position on a full time basis ranges from $225,000 to $275,000 or more when calculated on a full-time basis. Pay for contract roles is based on multiple factors including but not limited to work experience, qualifications, credentials, location, market supply/demand, and the candidate’s preference (each candidate’s pay rate affects the client bill rate which can affect the candidate’s competitiveness for the position).

Benefits:In addition to pay, all Latitude contract professionals receive complimentary professional liability insurance coverage. Latitude contract professionals are usually W2 employees of Latitude and are eligible for full benefits when working in roles for 20 hours per week. Benefits-eligible Latitude contract professionals receive complimentary Group Life, LTD and AD&D. A qualified 401k plan is also available. Benefits-eligible Latitude Attorneys also receive a CLE and Professional Expense stipend.
