Job description

Description

At Vets Pets, we aim to deliver top-notch veterinary care to families while prioritizing our employees. As a privately owned company based in North Carolina, we nurture the individuality of each practice under seasoned management and rigorous standards. Since our inception with two practices in 2007, we’ve expanded to over 35 locations across the state.

Our hospitals, spread across urban and rural areas of North Carolina, boast uniqueness in size and services. We offer everything from general wellness to boarding to round-the-clock emergency and specialty care. Our hallmark is compassionate, cutting-edge veterinary services.. We are seeking a contract role to enhance our support team for our emergency and specialty service line.

Position Summary

The Contract Veterinary Recruiter / Sourcer is responsible for proactively identifying, engaging, and screening qualified veterinary professionals to support current and future hiring needs across our network of veterinary hospitals. While sourcing efforts will be focused primarily on ER, ICU and Specialty Services Veterinary Technicians, the recruiter may support additional positions based on organizational hiring needs.

This role requires a proactive approach to recruiting, with an emphasis on identifying passive talent, developing candidate pipelines, and creating meaningful connections with veterinary professionals. You will partner closely with Human Resources and hiring leaders to understand staffing priorities and connect qualified candidates with opportunities throughout the organization.

This position is initially offered as a -3 month 25-30 hours per week, with the potential for a contract extension or full-time employment offer based on performance, organizational needs, and mutual fit.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Utilizes a variety of sourcing techniques and platforms to identify qualified active and passive candidates, including LinkedIn, professional networks, veterinary-specific resources, job boards, referrals, social media, and other creative sourcing methods.
  • Conducts proactive candidate searches to develop and maintain talent pipelines for current openings, anticipated vacancies, and difficult-to-fill positions.
  • Develops targeted sourcing and outreach strategies based on position requirements, geographic market, candidate availability, and organizational hiring priorities.
  • Engages prospective candidates through personalized outreach to introduce career opportunities, generate interest, and establish positive relationships with the organization.
  • Conducts initial candidate screens to assess qualifications, experience, career interests, compensation expectations, geographic preferences, availability, and overall alignment with available opportunities.
  • Presents qualified candidates to Human Resources and hiring leaders with relevant information regarding candidate experience, interests, and potential fit.
  • Maintains consistent communication with candidates throughout the sourcing and initial screening process to provide a positive and professional candidate experience.
  • Partners with Human Resources and hiring leaders to understand position requirements, hospital needs, organizational culture, and recruiting priorities.
  • Maintains accurate and timely candidate records within the applicant tracking system (ATS) and other recruiting tools, documenting sourcing activities, candidate interactions, status, and follow-up.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with prospective candidates who may not be ready to make an immediate career move, creating pipelines for future opportunities.
  • Tracks sourcing activity and recruiting outcomes, including candidate outreach, response rates, screens, qualified candidate submissions, and other relevant recruiting metrics.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of sourcing channels and strategies and makes recommendations to improve candidate engagement and recruiting results.
  • Represents the organization professionally in all candidate interactions and effectively communicates our culture, career opportunities, and employee value proposition.
  • Performs additional recruiting and sourcing responsibilities as needed to support organizational hiring priorities.
Qualifications
  • Previous recruiting or talent sourcing experience required; experience recruiting veterinary professionals, healthcare professionals, or other difficult-to-fill positions strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience proactively sourcing passive candidates rather than relying solely on inbound applicants.
  • Experience conducting candidate screens and evaluating candidate qualifications and career interests.
  • Experience utilizing LinkedIn Recruiter, applicant tracking systems, sourcing platforms, job boards, and other recruiting technologies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to create engaging and personalized candidate outreach.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple searches, candidate pipelines, and recruiting priorities simultaneously.
  • Comfortable working independently while maintaining regular communication and partnership with Human Resources and hiring leaders.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive candidate and organizational information.
Measures of Success

Success in this contract role will be evaluated based on the ability to consistently generate qualified candidate pipelines and meaningful candidate engagement. Key measures may include sourcing activity, candidate response and engagement rates, qualified candidate screens, candidate submissions to hiring leaders, interviews generated from sourcing efforts, pipeline development for priority positions, and ultimately the contribution of sourced candidates to successful hires.

The expectation of this role is not simply to generate volume of candidates, but to identify and engage qualified veterinary professionals who have a realistic potential to become successful hires within the organization.
