Job summary

Sumner Veterinary Hospital located in Sumner, WA, is seeking a Veterinary Technician who supports veterinarians and the pharmacy team while serving clients with care.

Qualifications

  • Current WA state veterinary technician license preferred, but not required.
  • Pharmacy knowledge and dosage calculations required.
  • Proficient computer skills and prescription entry systems.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy laws and controlled substances.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and record-keeping.
  • Must obtain WA Medication Clerk License.
  • Mostly sedentary with heavy computer/phone use.

Responsibilities

  • Manages prescriptions from clients via practice management software, online portals and email.
  • Prepare and fill medications for both outpatients and hospitalized patients where permitted by state law.
  • Perform computer entry of prescriptions in practice management software.
  • Assure maintenance of the pharmacy by keeping it clean and in order.
  • Work closely with Inventory Manager to assist with drug inventory control.
  • Stock and refill pharmacy supplies as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive patient information.
  • Follow appropriate hospital protocol for dispensing and logging of controlled substances.
  • Explain medications to owners to ensure understanding of doctor’s instructions with excellent customer service.

Job Summary

In addition to the responsibilities outlined below, the Pharmacy Technician is an invaluable member of the hospital team who works directly with the Veterinarian team, Veterinary Technician team and the Customer Service Representative team.

Basic Qualifications:
  • - Must have 2-5 years experience in veterinary medicine
  • - Current WA state veterinary technician license preferred, but not required.
  • -Pharmacy experience or background preferred. Knowledge of medication names, dosages and pharmaceutical calculations required.
  • -Proficient computer skills, including experience with prescription order entry systems, as well as office equipment such as fax machines, label printers, and multi line phone systems
  • -Familiarity with legal guidelines and safety regulations in pharmacy practices and controlled substances
  • -Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • - Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • - Strong attention to detail and record-keeping skills
  • - Ability to problem solve and have critical thinking skills
  • - Must currently have or be able to obtain WA State Medication Clerk License
  • -Ability to work from a mostly sedentary position with heavy computer and phone use.
