Job summary

Sumner Veterinary Hospital in Sumner, WA is seeking an ER Licensed Veterinary Technician to join the overnight team. The LVT will oversee the overnight technician group, coordinate with the Hospital Manager, Technician Manager and DVM on duty, and ensure continuous, high‑quality patient care.

Responsibilities include anesthesia prep and monitoring, injections and draws, lab work, and maintaining hospital workflows and safety.

Qualifications

  • Valid Veterinary Technician License required.
  • Experience in veterinary medicine is required.
  • Specialties encouraged but not required.
  • Strong communication and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professionalism and commitment to ongoing educational development.

Responsibilities

  • Work 10-12 hour shifts on your feet.
  • Lift up to 40 lbs unassisted.
  • Handle animal restraint and assist with injections, blood draws, nail trims.
  • Monitor patients during anesthesia and assist with procedures.
  • Operate hospital equipment safely and maintain sanitation protocols.
  • Collaborate with DVM and hospital team to ensure quality care.

Description & Requirements

In addition to the responsibilities outlined below, the ER LVT is an invaluable member of the hospital team who works directly with the Hospital Manager, Veterinary Technician Manager and DVM on duty. This individual has oversight of the overnight hospital technician team to ensure productive and quality care is given at all times.

Basic Qualifications
  • Experience in veterinary medicine
  • Veterinary Technician License
  • Veterinary Technician Specialties is encouraged, not required
  • Along with a positive attitude and a high degree of energy, you will have excellent communication skills, the ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effectively communicates and manages work flow
  • Ability to effectively handle and defuse upset clients.
  • Must be able to handle the physical and emotional aspect of work in a veterinary hospital environment.
  • Demonstrates professionalism in separating personal relationships with staff and making decisions and having interactions that are in the best interest of the hospital.
  • Models a professional and courteous manner with staff and clients.
  • Commitment to ongoing educational development and growth.
  • Must enthusiastically demonstrate active listening, critical thinking, complex problem solving, time management, judgment and decision making skills.
Job Responsibilities
  • Must be able to work 10-12 hour shifts and be on their feet for a majority of that time.
  • Must be able to lift 40 Lbs unassisted
  • Stooping, bending , lifting, getting down on the floor and raising arms above head are constant required movements
  • Must be able and willing to use a computer very frequently throughout shift
  • Attention to detail and spelling is critical
  • Must possess a good sense of time management and critical thinking
  • Ability to learn and demonstrate effective and appropriate skills in regards to handling animal restraint
  • Ability to steady hands and administer injections, blood draws and nail trims
  • Perform all duties of a Licensed Veterinary Technician including
    • Prepare for any major/minor anesthetic procedures
    • Monitor patients through anesthetic procedures
    • Collect samples and performs laboratory tests as directed by DVM
  • Follow all cleaning and sanitization protocols for the hospital
  • Ability to use hospital equipment safely and to standard, including but not limited to scales, thermometers, lab equipment and X Ray machines
  • Demonstrates good interpersonal skills and is able to work with a team, as well as work by themselves
  • Contributes to positive change conversations and has a relentless drive to improve hospital operational performance and culture.
Compensation
  • Base hourly rate of $28.00 - $36.00 DOE
  • Eligible for periodic bonus (where applicable)
