Job summary

The San Francisco SPCA is seeking a Pharmacy Associate for our in-hospital pharmacy inside the Veterinary Hospital. This full-time role operates on a 4/10 schedule with hours Mon–Sat 8am–6pm, and it focuses on accurate prescription processing, dispensing medications, and clear communication with clients and staff.

You will maintain pharmacy inventory, ensure proper labeling, support cost-saving initiatives, handle cash transactions, and support Lean workflow improvements.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
• Good math skills including dosage calculations; training for compounding calculations may be provided.
• Previous customer service experience preferred.
• Solid knowledge of human drugs; training will cover animal medications.
• Veterinary experience as Veterinary Assistant/Technician/Pharmacy Technician preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare prescriptions accurately and record details in medical records.
• Record prescription refill requests via phone, text, fax, online, and in person.
• Communicate with clients via phone, text, email, and online platforms.
• Dispense medications to clients and educate on usage and administration.
• Dispense and distribute medications to hospital staff and ensure proper labeling.
• Maintain pharmacy inventory and supplies; minimize waste and save costs.
• Complete payment transactions in person.
• Contact manufacturers for technical support for doctors.
• Track controlled drugs per state and federal laws.
• Support workflow efficiency and Lean improvement initiatives.
