Responsibilities

• Manage a diverse oncology caseload with the hospital's multidisciplinary specialty team.
• Develop diagnostic and treatment plans for malignancies.
• Oversee chemotherapy protocols and provide individualized recommendations.
• Collaborate with Internal Medicine, Surgery, Emergency & Critical Care, Dermatology, and other teams.
• Utilize CT, ultrasound, digital radiography, and in-house lab for workups.
• Coordinate cancer care from diagnosis through treatment and follow-up.
• Mentor technicians and support staff involved in chemotherapy administration.
• Grow and develop the Medical Oncology service within the Ethos network.

For a Medical Oncologist, SOVSC offers the opportunity to manage a diverse referral caseload with access to advanced diagnostics, surgery, emergency and critical care, and a highly trained support team. Our hospital is equipped with digital radiography, ultrasound, CT, multiple surgical suites, a dedicated orthopedic suite, an onsite pharmacy, a comprehensive in-house laboratory, and an internal blood donation program.

In your day-to-day, you will:

• Manage a diverse and complex oncology caseload in collaboration with the hospital’s multidisciplinary specialty team
• Develop individualized diagnostic and treatment plans for patients with a variety of malignancies
• Oversee chemotherapy protocols and provide thoughtful, individualized recommendations based on each patient’s diagnosis, prognosis, and quality-of-life considerations
• Collaborate closely with Internal Medicine, Surgery, Emergency & Critical Care, Dermatology, and other specialty teams on complex cancer cases
• Utilize advanced diagnostic capabilities, including CT, ultrasound, digital radiography, and comprehensive in-house laboratory services, to support oncology workups and treatment planning
• Coordinate comprehensive cancer care from initial diagnosis through treatment, monitoring, and follow-up
• Collaborate with the hospital’s surgical team on patients requiring oncologic procedures
• Work closely with Emergency and Critical Care teams when caring for medically compromised or hospitalized oncology patients
• Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients regarding cancer diagnoses, treatment options, prognosis, and ongoing care
• Build strong relationships with referring veterinarians and serve as a trusted oncology resource for the Southern Oregon and surrounding veterinary community
• Mentor technicians and support staff involved in chemotherapy administration, patient monitoring, and oncology case management
• Help grow and develop the Medical Oncology service in alignment with hospital and community needs
• Pursue continuing education and professional development opportunities within oncology and the broader Ethos network
• Contribute to a positive, team-focused hospital culture built on collaboration, compassion, innovation, and clinical excellence

What You Bring

• DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with eligibility for Oregon veterinary licensure
• Board Certification in Veterinary Medical Oncology (DACVIM – Oncology) or Residency Trained in Medical Oncology and board eligible
