Job summary

IDEXX is seeking a Veterinary Medical Laboratory Technician in NORTH GRAFTON, MA to perform diagnostic testing supporting veterinarians in diagnosing and treating pets. You will join a fast-paced lab environment that values accuracy, teamwork, and continuous learning.

Responsibilities include operating automated analyzers and microscopes, processing blood, urine, fecal, and biopsy samples, and releasing results in line with SOPs. A science background and third-shift flexibility are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; science degree preferred.
• Willingness to work third shift (overnight or flex).
• Experience with laboratory testing and handling clinical samples is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform analyses and tests using automated analyzers, microscopes and other lab tools.
• Process blood, urine, fecal, and biopsy samples received in the lab.
• Set up and run lab tests; read and release results per SOPs.
• Possibly specialize in Parasitology, Hematology, Serology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, or Cytology.
• Collaborate with team to ensure accurate, timely results.

In This Role

• You will use automated analyzers, microscopes and other laboratory diagnostic tools to perform analyses and tests that diagnose animal illnesses, injuries and diseases in support of veterinarian animal treatment.
• You will perform diagnostic tests on blood, urine, fecal or pet biopsy samples that we receive in our lab by the thousands, every day.
• You will set up and run lab tests, then read and release results according to SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
• You could work in any of the following departments: Parasitology (fecal matter), Hematology, Serology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Cytology. If you have specialized training in any of these areas, please let your interviewer aware.
• You can expect to specialize in an assigned department.

What You Need To Succeed

• You possess a High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A 2-, 3- or 4-year degree in a Science-related field is preferred.
• You must have worked an alternate shift in the past (overnight or flex shift)
• This is a 3rd shift position – attendance and punctuality are essential.
• You will be required to work with veterinary clinical samples: blood, urine, fecal samples, surgical biopsies, etc. PPE is provided (lab coat, protective eyewear, gloves, etc.)
• It is not required to work in our lab, but if you were a Veterinary Technician (RVT, LVT, CVT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT or MT), this experience and education would be a plus.
• Ideally, you will have experience setting up, running, and reading lab tests, and operating laboratory equipment (microscopes, pipetting and/or clinical diagnostic analyzers).

• You have a great sense of team spirit and responsibility.
• Able to meet the physical requirements that go with working in a lab – standing and sitting for extended periods of time, phone & computer use, extended reach, lifting up to 50 lb, and specific vision ability – close, color, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• This is a laboratory, so there is potential exposure to biohazards, agents known to cause zoonotic diseases, and hazardous chemicals.

What You Can Expect From Us

• Hourly rates targeting: $24 / HR
• There is a shift differential additional pay of $3 / hr for employees who are on 3rd shift

Schedule

• The schedule for this position is: Monday‑Friday with rotating Saturday shifts
• The hours for this position are: 11:30 pm – 8:00 am
• The shifts and hours may vary slightly depending on business needs.
• Reliable and dependable attendance is an essential function of the position.
