Job summary

IDEXX Laboratory is seeking a Veterinary Medical Laboratory Technician to perform diagnostic tests on blood, urine, fecal samples and biopsies. You will set up, run, read and release results, potentially specializing in Parasitology, Hematology, Serology, Chemistry, Urinalysis or Cytology within our NORTH GRAFTON, MA lab.

A high school diploma is required, science degree preferred, and overnight/flex shift experience is valued.

Qualifications

  • Must have worked an alternate shift (overnight or flex).
  • Third shift position; attendance and punctuality essential.
  • Experience working with veterinary clinical samples (blood, urine, feces, biopsies).

As Veterinary Medical La** boratory Technician** at IDEXX, you perform laboratory testing that helps veterinarians diagnose and treat pets. In this role:
  • You will use automated analyzers, microscopes and other laboratory diagnostic tools to perform analyses and tests that diagnose animal illnesses, injuries and diseases in support of veterinarian animal treatment.
  • You will perform diagnostic tests on blood, urine, fecal or pet biopsy samples that we receive in our lab by the thousands, every day.
  • You will set up and run lab tests, then read and release results according to SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
  • You could work in any of the following departments: Parasitology (fecal matter), Hematology, Serology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Cytology. If you have specialized training in any of these areas, please let your interviewer aware.

What you need to succeed:
  • You possess a High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.A 2-, 3- or 4-year degree in a Science-related field is preferred.
  • You must have worked an alternate shift in the past (overnight or flex shift)
  • This is a 3rd shift position-attendance and punctuality are essential.
  • You will be required to work with veterinary clinical samples: blood, urine, fecal samples, surgical biopsies, etc. PPE is provided (lab coat, protective eyewear, gloves, etc.)
  • It is not required to work in our lab, but if you were a Veterinary Technician (RVT, LVT, CVT)or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT or MT), this experience and education would be a plus.
  • Ideally, you will have experience setting up, running, and reading lab tests, and operating laboratory equipment (microscopes, pipetting and / or clinical diagnostic analyzers).

  • Able to meet the physical requirements that go with working in a lab – standing and sitting for extended periods of time, phone & computer use, extended reach, lifting up to 50lb, and specific vision ability – close, color, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • This is a laboratory, so there is potential exposure to biohazards, agents known to cause zoonotic diseases, and hazardous chemicals.

Schedule:
  • The schedule for this position is: Monday- Friday with rotating Saturday shifts
  • The hours for this position are: 11:30pm - 8:00am
  • The shifts and hours may vary slightly depending on business needs.
