PetVet Care Centers' Southgate Animal Hospital in Southgate, MI is seeking a Medical Director to lead veterinary care with a focus on high-quality medicine and team collaboration.

The role offers a competitive base salary of $160,000–$170,000, a 4-day work week, no on-call, and generous benefits including insurance, 401(k), signing and relocation packages. You will oversee medical standards, mentor staff, and drive excellence in patient care.

Qualifications

• Veterinarian degree (DVM or VMD) from an accredited college or university.
• Current State Veterinary License.
• DEA registration must be obtained and maintained.
• 3‑5+ years of experience in a veterinary practice.
• Strong diagnostic and clinical skills.
• Excellent surgical and dental skills.
• Ability to work well in a team‑oriented environment.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
• Commitment to providing compassionate and high‑quality veterinary care.
• Excellent communication skills with all medical and hospital staff.
• Client communication skills: ability to elicit information, establish rapport, and explain to pet owners.
• Display confidence and reassurance when dealing with pets in distress.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
• Capacity to lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Oversee medical standards and quality of care and give directives accordingly.
• Set policies pertaining to practice of medicine.
• Work toward integrating services into a unified team.
• Budget new equipment and provide cost estimates and ROI.
• See patients and handle clinical practice.
• Ensure positive communication with clients and between doctors, including proper transfer of patient care responsibilities.
• Review patient records for completeness and accuracy and use them to promote medical excellence.
• Manage controlled drugs appropriately.
• Approve requests for alternative drugs and supplies.
• Conduct regular doctor meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Manager.
