Job summary

Alliance Animal Health seeks a dedicated kennel/boarding assistant for Kennesaw Mountain Animal Hospital in the Atlanta area. You will bathe and groom dogs, maintain clean rooms, assist with group play for boarding pets, and support doctors and staff with compassionate, family-centered care.

Responsibilities include handling pets, cleaning and sanitizing areas, and contributing to a positive, stress-free environment.

Qualifications

• Experience with cleansing and disinfecting environments.
• Bathing and grooming dogs to hospital and client standards.
• Ability to restrain animals safely and efficiently.
• Capacity to learn administering medications and recognizing abnormal conditions.
• Willingness to perform moderate physical labor and handle large dogs and supplies.
• Ability to understand and follow both written and verbal instructions.

Job Description

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

Each pet has their own room or suite for down-time, but will participate in a Group-Play environment during the day as well, as long as they have passed our temperament test for Group-Play. For our Hotel pets who do not enjoy group play, they get one-on-one time with a kennel assistant dependent on their needs and/or requirements. The cleaning will entail keeping the individual pet's rooms/suites clean, but also the yards and wards clean/sterile in general. Duties include but are not limited to vacuuming, moping, doing laundry, feeding and medicating pets that are boarding. Our Group-Play environment is based off of the Dog-Gurus series called "Knowing Dogs 101 & 201." Knowing Dogs 101 is about Dog Language and Knowing Dogs 201 is about Group Play. We do require all of our staff to watch this series of 16 videos (that are about 20-25 minutes each) and pass the quizzes that go along with each lesson, this way our entire staff are all on the same page concerning dog behavior (from the doctors and receptionists to the kennel staff). We also have individual cat suites and a separate cat Play-Room, however cats will be rotated through their Play-Room individually, since cats are not so fond of a Group-Play environment (except for those that are boarding with a sibling), therefore we need our kennel assistants to also be comfortable handling kitties. Most importantly, we are looking for passionate individuals who enjoy not only the time with the pets, but interacting with the pet owners as well.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with:

• Knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting methods.
• Bathe and groom dogs according to hospital and client standards, ensuring pets are clean, comfortable, and well cared for.
• Proper methods of animal restraint.
• Ability to use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency.
• Perform moderately heavy physical labor (large dogs, bags of litter, pet foods, etc).
• Ability to sympathetically and patiently attend to sick, scared and injured animals.
• Ability to learn to administer medications and to recognize abnormal conditions.
• Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
• Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of the job.

Additional Information

Pay Range: $10 - $14/hr

Job Type: Full-time– including weekends as needed
