Job summary

Animal Emergency & Specialty Hospital in Michigan seeks an Internal Medicine Specialist (ACVIM) to join a 24-hour specialty team at Grand Rapids or Byron Center. This full-time role offers collaboration with emergency clinicians and growth in ultrasound, sophisticated diagnostics, and interventional procedures.

You will mentor staff, coordinate complex cases, and help shape the Internal Medicine service while maintaining work-life balance in a supportive culture.

Qualifications

  • DVM degree with Michigan licensure eligibility.
  • Board Certification in Internal Medicine (ACVIM) or residency training in Internal Medicine.
  • Excellent communication and collaborative mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Manage complex internal medicine cases across GI, hepatobiliary, infectious disease, endocrine, hematology, and respiratory conditions.
  • Perform and coordinate advanced diagnostics such as ultrasound, endoscopy, fluoroscopy, and CT.
  • Collaborate with specialty and emergency teams on shared patients and transfers.
  • Mentor technicians and assistants during daily case management.
  • Contribute to building the Internal Medicine service aligned with clinical interests.
  • Pursue growth opportunities in ultrasound and interventional radiology procedures.
  • Provide compassionate owner communication during stressful situations.
  • Support a positive, team-focused hospital culture.

In your day to day, you will:
  • Manage complex internal medicine cases spanning gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, infectious disease, endocrine, hematologic, and respiratory conditions.
  • Perform and or order advanced diagnostics such as ultrasound, endoscopy, fluoroscopy, and CT.
  • Coordinate with specialty and emergency teams on shared patients and transfers.
  • Mentor technicians and assistants as part of daily case management.
  • Help build and shape the Internal Medicine service based on your clinical interests and professional goals.
  • Pursue growth opportunities in ultrasound proficiency, interventional radiology procedures, and electrochemotherapy ECT training.
  • Work closely with veterinarians, technicians, and support teams to provide seamless, compassionate patient care.
  • Communicate clearly and empathetically with pet owners during stressful and emotional situations.
  • Contribute to a positive, team focused hospital culture built on collaboration, mentorship, and continuous learning.
What You Bring
  • DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with eligibility for veterinary licensure in the state of Michigan.
  • Board Certification in Internal Medicine through ACVIM or residency training in Internal Medicine.
  • Strong communication skills with a compassionate, client centered approach.
  • A collaborative mindset and commitment to exceptional patient care.
  • A passion for continuous learning, teamwork, and advancing specialty medicine.
