Job description

Veterinary Intern

Large Animal Clinical Sciences Department, Texas A&M University – College Station, Texas.

Job Type: Staff. Salary: Starting at $45,000/year, commensurate with education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Participate in clinical rotations for 2 to 4 weeks in various veterinary specialty and service areas.
• Examine, diagnose, treat, and manage patient care under general supervision.
• Conduct case management, procedures, and client communication regarding patient status, diagnoses, and treatment plans.
• Teach and guide veterinary students and assist in training of graduate and undergraduate students.
• Participate in topic and patient rounds.
• Complete an academic project during the internship.
• Prepare and deliver a high-quality seminar to colleagues in the academic department.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to multitask, work cooperatively, and communicate clearly.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and outstanding entry‑level medical knowledge.
• Ability to diagnose and treat veterinary diseases.
• Willingness and skill in instructing students.

Licenses and Certifications

• State of Texas Veterinary License.
• PASSED score on the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE) and Texas State Board examination.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate of a College of Veterinary Medicine accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).
• Certification by the AVMA’s education commission for foreign veterinary graduates (ECFVG) or the program for the assessment of veterinary education equivalence (PAVE).

Other Requirements

• Stand on feet for extended periods and move medium‑weight objects or animals.
• Work beyond normal office hours and/or weekends.
• Intern will be directly supervised 85% of the time and by a boarded specialist for complex cases.
• Opportunity to interact with more than 49 small animal faculty members, 30 large animal faculty, and 30 interns and residents.
