Virginia Tech's Veterinary Teaching Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Imaging Technician to provide high-quality imaging across radiography, fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, and nuclear medicine for both small and large animals. You will work closely with veterinarians, radiologists, students, and staff to ensure safe, accurate diagnostics.

The role requires a Virginia license or eligibility, experience with imaging equipment, and strong communication.

Qualifications

  • Must be a licensed (or license eligible) veterinary technician in Virginia.
  • Prior experience working with imaging equipment.
  • Excellent communication.
  • Quick learner on advance procedures.
  • Flexible and able to work in a dynamic department.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, position, and restrain patients for diagnostic imaging studies.
  • Perform radiographs, fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, and NM procedures for small and large animals; assist in nuclear medicine for feline hyperthyroid patients.
  • Maintain radiation safety and enforce safety practices.
  • Help maintain imaging equipment and identify routine issues.
  • Assist veterinary students with positioning, imaging techniques, and safety practices.
  • Collaborate with veterinarians, radiologists, technicians, and students in a fast-paced teaching hospital.
  • Complete patient records and related clerical duties.
  • Maintain a clean, organized imaging environment.
  • Participate in a variable schedule and after-hours on-call rotation; report within 60 minutes when on call.

Job Description

The Veterinary Imaging Technician provides high-quality images during the performance of diagnostic imaging procedures, including routine and complex studies. Responsibilities include safely preparing, positioning and acquisition for patients undergoing radiography, fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, and nuclear medicine procedures. The position works closely with veterinarians, radiologists, students, and other members of the veterinary healthcare team to ensure patients receive safe, high-quality care and diagnostic images.

  • Prepare, position, and restrain patients for diagnostic imaging studies.
  • Perform radiographs, fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, and procedures for both small and large animals. Participate in nuclear medicine for feline hyperthyroid patients.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of radiation safety and consistently follow and enforce required safety practices and regulations.
  • Help maintain imaging equipment and identify routine equipment or operational issues.
  • Assist veterinary students with patient positioning, imaging techniques, and radiation safety practices.
  • Collaborate with veterinarians, radiologists, veterinary technicians, and students in a fast-paced teaching hospital environment.
  • Complete appropriate patient records, documentation, and related clerical responsibilities.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe imaging environment.
  • Participate in a variable work schedule and after-hours on-call rotation as required. Must be able to report to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital within 60 minutes when on call.
Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
