Job summary

The University of California, Davis VMTH Pharmacy seeks a per diem Pharmacist 2 PD to provide licensed, professional pharmacy services and supervise technicians on a relief basis.

The role includes dispensing medications for inpatient and outpatient animal patients, ensuring compliance with labeling and controlled substance regulations, and applying professional judgement. Per diem shifts include on-call coverage with competitive pay and benefits.

Qualifications

• California Pharmacist License eligible and possess a valid license at the time of hire.
• Current California Pharmacist License.
• Experience interpreting clinician orders to dispense pharmaceuticals to inpatient and outpatient animal patients.
• Experience with controlled substance record keeping.
• Experience using basic pharmacy math (dosages, conversions factors, weights and measures).
• Experience compounding of special dosage forms, topicals, and oral medications, etc.
• Knowledge of medication dispensing requirements including labeling, documentation, and controlled substance requirements.
• Oral and written communication skills (in person and over the phone with a diverse group of people).

Job Summary

Under direction of the VMTH Pharmacy Director, provide licensed, professional pharmacy expertise and skills (on a part-time and relief basis) pursuant to the provision of pharmaceutical services in the VMTH Pharmacy. Responsible for provision of the entire above professional services and supervise pharmacy Techs and review their work.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

• California Pharmacist License eligible and possess a valid license at the time of hire
• Current California Pharmacist License.
• Experience interpreting clinician orders to dispense pharmaceuticals to inpatient and outpatient animal patients.
• Experience with controlled substance record keeping.
• Experience using basic pharmacy math (calculating dosages, conversion factors, pharmaceutical weights and measures, etc.).
• Experience compounding of special dosage forms, topicals, and oral medications, etc.
• Knowledge of medication dispensing requirements including labeling, documentation, and controlled substance requirements.
• Oral and written communication skills (in person and over the phone with a diverse group of people).

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of USP <795>, <797> and <800>, Cal OSHA guidelines and ASHP procedures for safe handling of cytotoxic drugs.
• Knowledge of animal drug categories, names and doses of all formulary drugs, metric system and medical terminology.
• Experience with Omnicell or similar automated dispensing systems.

The VMTH is a unit that provides clinical case material in support of the teaching programs throughout the School of Veterinary Medicine on a 24-hour basis. Its primary objectives are to train professional (veterinary) students, graduate clinical students (interns and residents), and graduate academic students; to provide veterinary services to the public; to serve as a referral center for practicing veterinarians, and to advance veterinary medical knowledge.
