Job summary

Pieper Memorial Veterinary Center in Middletown, CT, is seeking a reliable Facilities Assistant to join our busy hospital environment. You will perform plumbing, electrical, carpentry and painting tasks, ensuring a clean, safe, and fully operational facility for staff and animal patients.

Weekend availability is required and scheduling will be determined on hire. The role involves minor electrical work, plumbing maintenance, basic carpentry, and general handyman tasks while coordinating repair

Qualifications

• Driver's license required.
• Strong knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting techniques.
• Weekend availability required; schedule finalized at hire.
• Comfortable around dogs, cats, and medical equipment.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and stand/kneel for extended periods.
• Excellent communication to coordinate repairs with staff.

Responsibilities

• Replace lightbulbs, ballast fixtures, and troubleshoot minor electrical issues safely.
• Repair leaky faucets, clear minor clogs, and maintain hospital sinks and drainage systems.
• Perform basic carpentry repairs, patch drywall, and interior painting as needed.
• Hang signage, assemble furniture, repair doors/locks, and ensure hardware functions smoothly.
• Maintain awareness of clinical surroundings to avoid disrupting patient care.
