Applicants must be third or fourth‑year students of accredited domestic or international veterinary schools pursuing a DVM, VMD, or foreign equivalent. The externship is open to third and fourth‑year veterinary students attending an accredited veterinary school. Priority is given to students likely to pursue careers in emergency medicine and who are considering moving to the Western Massachusetts region after graduation.
Students will work three 12‑hour shifts partnered with an emergency veterinarian. They will see emergency cases and have the opportunity to spend time with our board‑certified internists and surgeons. Completed evaluation forms will be provided by accredited veterinary schools to allow students to receive academic credit for their time at VESH.
Rotations are typically scheduled from the fall through early spring of the fourth year. The rotation duration options are two weeks or four weeks.
Visiting students are responsible for finding their own housing.
