Job description

An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience.

While each NVA hospital is unique, they share common qualities: a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.

What can you expect from an externship at Abby Pet Hospital? Most externships at Abby Pet Hospital last from two to eight weeks, with flexibility depending on student and hospital schedules.

Our hybrid facility offers GP, UC, and ER services supported by a team of nine doctors passionate about mentorship and knowledge sharing. We recently renovated our 8,000 sq ft facility, utilizing top-notch equipment and technology to care for our patients in this fast-paced environment. We see small animals, exotics, and reptiles.

Our team supports a diverse patient base, frequently handling a variety of cases and surgeries. Join us to build your experience portfolio!

Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing patient care. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships. Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. The stipend at Abby Pet Hospital is $1,500.
