National Veterinary Associates offers externship opportunities for 4th-year veterinary students at Ferry Farm Animal Clinic. Students will work closely with veterinarians, gaining hands-on experience in a challenging environment specializing in surgeries and complex cases. The externship will enhance not only technical skills but also communication with clients and staff, all while providing a supportive team environment.
Ferry Farm Animal Clinic is not your average general practice, as we handle more complex cases such as difficult second opinions and emergencies. We specialize in soft tissue surgery and C-sections. Our team fosters a collaborative environment with mentoring and case consultations, making it an ideal setting for early-career students to thrive.
Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing medical cases. Additionally, students will have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. These externships are open to 4th-year veterinary students.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view the stipend amounts and HERE for program details.
