Job summary

Clinton Keith Veterinary Hospital in Temecula Valley invites veterinary students to join a structured externship. You will work closely with supervising veterinarians to gain hands-on experience in patient histories, exams, treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, and surgical observation or participation.

Externships typically run from two to eight weeks, with opportunities to practice communication with the medical team and clients.

Qualifications

• Externship for veterinary students must be taken as part of clinical education.
• Exposure to patient histories, physical exams, treatment planning, diagnostics, dentistry, and surgery is required.

Responsibilities

• Gather patient histories and perform physical exams.
• Create and discuss treatment plans and diagnostic approaches.
• Assist or observe dental procedures and surgeries when possible.
• Support medical team, staff, and clients in communication and care.

At Clinton Keith Veterinary Hospital wehave Doctors that love to teach. We are located in the Temecula Valley with beautiful views of the mountains and not too far from the wineries. Our hospital is newer with many "state-of-the-art" equipment available. Central location from San Diego to Big Bear, where you can enjoy the beaches or snow-covered mountains.

Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.

Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. The stipend amount forClinton Keith Veterinary Hospital is $500.
