Advanced Dentistry and Exotics are additional services we offer outside of routine exams and surgeries that may be appealing to students! We also have the BEST sx suite window. Plus, who doesn't want to come to Alaska?!

Externship Opportunities at Wasilla Veterinary Clinic

Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in:

  1. Gathering patient histories
  2. Performing physical exams
  3. Creating treatment plans
  4. Diagnostics and dentistry services
  5. Observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures
  6. Medical management of patients

In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Program Details

Most externship experiences at Wasilla Veterinary Clinic range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. We have a limited number of externship slots available. Students interested in practicing in Alaska post-graduation will be given top priority consideration for rotations.

It is a requirement of the state of Alaska that veterinary students be in their final year of education to participate in an externship. Students must hold a veterinary student permit before beginning an externship in the state, per 12 AAC 68.500 and 08.98.188. Instructions on how to obtain the permit can be found HERE.

Stipend Information
