Abqpetcarehospital offers a unique externship experience for veterinary students in Town of Hempstead, New York. During this externship, students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians at South Shore Animal Hospital to gain hands-on clinical experience.
Externships range from two to eight weeks and include a stipend of $500 for travel and living expenses. This opportunity allows students to develop various skills, including patient management, diagnostics, surgery assistance, and client communication.
All veterinary students are encouraged to apply regardless of their academic year.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians at South Shore Animal Hospital, A PetOne Veterinary Hospital. They will gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing clinical skills, externs will practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship experiences range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules.
Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. The stipend amount for South Shore Animal Hospital, A PetOne Veterinary Hospital is $500.
All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
