Job description

Externship Experience

An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students the unique opportunity to understand daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience.

Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to:

• Gather patient histories
• Perform physical exams
• Create treatment plans
• Conduct diagnostics
• Provide dentistry services
• Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures
• Manage medical treatment of patients

In addition to clinical skills, students will practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Externship Details

Most externship experiences at Stafford Veterinary Hospital range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate.

Eligibility: Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend of $1,500.
