An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers veterinary students a valuable opportunity to understand the daily operations of a veterinary practice and gain hands-on clinical experience. Each NVA hospital provides a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Externs will work closely with supervising veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing medical cases. Additionally, externs will develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. East Valley Pet Hospital offers externships to 3rd and 4th-year veterinary students.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view stipend amounts and HERE for more details.
