A leading global pet care organization offers a unique externship for 3rd and 4th year veterinary students. Gain hands-on clinical experience in a supportive environment while being mentored by experienced Associate Veterinarians, with additional travel stipends provided. This externship will enhance your practical veterinary skills and prepare you for your professional career.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they share common qualities: a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a dedication to providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing medical cases. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
The externship duration typically ranges from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. Externships at Abel Keppy Animal Hospital are designed for 3rd and 4th year veterinary students.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view the stipend amounts and HERE for more details on the stipend program.
*An additional $1,000 travel stipend is offered on top of the amount listed for externships at this hospital.
