Job summary

A veterinary clinic in North Port, Florida is offering an externship for final-year veterinary students. This opportunity allows students to work alongside experienced veterinarians, gaining hands-on experience in patient management, diagnostics, and surgical procedures. Students will also enhance their communication skills while interacting with the medical team and clients. Externships typically last between two to eight weeks, and a travel/living expense stipend is available for eligible students.

Job description

Heron Creek Animal Hospital is a hospital that is always growing in clientele, medicine, and opportunities. We focus on quality over quantity, while also being the only practice in our area to never turn away new clients.

Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Externships at Heron Creek are offered to students in their final clinical year of veterinary school.
