Job summary

The KAAWS Clinic in Houston, TX offers a veterinary student externship focusing on high-volume spay/neuter and wellness. Participants will gain hands-on surgical experience and real-world clinical exposure under the guidance of an experienced surgical team.

Open to 3rd and 4th year veterinary students, the program runs for 2–4 weeks with a travel/living stipend of up to $1,000. This is a mentorship-rich, fast-paced training environment in a trusted community veterinary center.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with spays and neuters as skill allows.
  • Assist with exams, diagnostics, treatment planning, and preventive care.
  • Receive one-on-one mentorship from our DVMs and experienced staff.
  • Develop communication skills with clients and the veterinary team.

Our externship program offers veterinary students a unique opportunity to dive into efficient, high-quality medicine under the guidance of a seasoned surgical team.

Externship Highlights:
  • Hands-on Surgical Experience: Perform and assist with spays and neuters (based on skill and comfort level)
  • Exposure to physical exams, diagnostics, treatment planning, dental procedures, and preventive care
  • One-on-one mentorship from our DVMs and experienced support staff
  • Opportunities to develop communication skills with clients and the veterinary team
Program Details:

minimum 2 weeks, up to 4 week externships available, depending on student/hospital schedules
Open to 3rd and 4th year veterinary students
up to $1,000 travel/living stipend available for students in their clinical year
