Job description

An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they share a common environment that is supportive, committed to excellent medicine, and dedicated to providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.

Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing medical cases. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Most externship durations at Countryside Animal Hospital of Hot Springs range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of their academic year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.

Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view the stipend amounts and HERE for more details on the stipend program.
