Abqpetcarehospital is offering an externship at Ferry Farm Animal Clinic for 4th year veterinary students. This unique opportunity allows students to gain practical experience in a supportive environment, focusing on skills like gathering patient histories, performing exams, and assisting in surgical procedures.
Students will work alongside experienced veterinarians and gain exposure to emergency care and soft tissue surgery. Benefits include a stipend for travel and living expenses during the externship.
Ferry Farm Animal Clinic is not your average general practice as we see more difficult second opinions and emergencies. We do a lot of soft tissue surgery and c-sections. Our team provides a lot of mentoring and consults with each other on cases. This would be a great environment for a student to thrive in with their early career.
Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Externships at Ferry Farm are offered to 4th year veterinary students.
Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Visit the stipend page for more information about stipend amounts and program details.
