Job summary

Cibolo Small Animal Hospital in Texas is offering a veterinary externship with hands-on experiences across clinical duties. Trainees will work under a supervising veterinarian and gain exposure to exams, diagnostics, and surgical procedures.

Stipends are available to help cover travel and living expenses during the externship period, which ranges from two to eight weeks. All veterinary students are encouraged to participate in externships through NVA.

Responsibilities

• Gaining experience by gathering patient histories and performing physical exams.
• Creating treatment plans and conducting diagnostics and dentistry services.
• Observing, assisting, or performing surgical procedures.
• Developing medical management plans for patients.
• Enhancing communication with the medical team and with clients.

Cibolo Small Animal Hospital offers up to $1,500 travel stipend for clinical year externships.

Cibolo Small Animal Hospital is a 2-doctor practice that truly is here for the love of animals and those that love them. We are located in Cibolo, Texas, and have a small-town feel but San Antonio and Austin are both within an hour's drive. New Braunfels, Gruene, and several other fun towns are nearby to explore. We can't wait to share our years of experience and knowledge with a new comer as it energizes our passion to work with someone who is excited to join the veterinary field!

Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Most externship experiences at Cibolo Small Animal Hospital range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.

Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
