Job summary

National Veterinary Associates is offering a unique externship opportunity in Boston, Massachusetts, for veterinary students to gain hands-on clinical experience in a supportive environment. Students will work closely with supervising veterinarians to gather patient histories, perform exams, create treatment plans, and assist with surgical procedures.

This externship ranges from two to eight weeks and provides a stipend for travel/living expenses. Additionally, NVA offers comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, and a 401(k) plan for eligible employees.

Overview

An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Responsibilities

• Work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gather patient histories.
• Perform physical exams and create treatment plans.
• Assist with diagnostics, dentistry services, and observe or perform surgical procedures.
• Assist with medical management of patients.
• Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Externship Details

Externships at Back Bay Veterinary Clinic range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.

Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
