An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of veterinary practice and gain hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is distinct, all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing patient care. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to develop communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. These externships are available for veterinary students in their clinical year at Airline Animal Health and Surgery Center.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view the stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
