An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, all share common features: a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting with surgical procedures, and managing medical cases. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Most externship experiences at Greater Annapolis Veterinary Hospital range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view stipend amounts and HERE for stipend program details.
An additional $500 travel stipend is offered for externships at this hospital, as listed in the link.
