Job summary

Amarillo Medical Center of Amarillo offers veterinary externships in collaboration with National Veterinary Associates. Students gain experience under supervising veterinarians, participating in exams, treatment planning, diagnostics, dentistry, and surgical observations or procedures.

Externships last two to eight weeks, with a travel stipend available. NVA supports growth and offers opportunities for mentorship and professional development within a large network.

Job description

Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.

Amarillo Medical Center of Amarillo offers up to a $1500 travel stipend for clinical year externships.
