Job summary

Urgent Pet Care is seeking an Exam Room Assistant to support veterinarians and the front desk team during emergencies. You will help assess patients, communicate with anxious families, and ensure compassionate care in a busy, demanding environment.

The role requires flexibility for nights, weekends, and holidays, plus the ability to multi-task and stay organized. Avimark and Word proficiency are beneficial as you document interactions and treatment plans.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Under Veterinarian supervision, assist in deciding best treatment plans.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and comfort to clients and pets.
  • Assist with check-in, updates, and family communication during pet emergencies.
  • Maintain knowledge of Avimark and basic word processing for records and notes.
  • Support the team during long shifts and adapt to changing duties as needed.

Our Hours of Operation
  • Monday - Saturday: 8 am - 12 midnight
  • Sunday: 8 am - 10 pm
Job Description

The exam room assistant is a hard worker who is self‑motivated, able to multi‑task, handles stress well, advocates for their patients, and is aware of the bigger picture. Under the general supervision of a Veterinarian, the exam room assistant helps decide on the best treatment plan for patients. The exam room assistant’s goal is to have a working knowledge of the receptionist position, to have competence with Avimark and Microsoft Word, and to provide an exceptional customer service experience by treating each client and patient with the utmost compassion and respect.

Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.

Qualifications
  • Veterinary experience preferred, but not required
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ensure that all actions and interactions are consistently in alignment with UPC Core Values and “Behaviors in Action” (See Employee Handbook.)
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism at all times
  • Manage time and tasks appropriately and remain flexible with assigned duties
