Job summary

United Veterinary Care in Berkeley, CA is seeking an Emergency Veterinary Technician or experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our busy 24-hour ER team. The role leads shift teams, oversees care, and coordinates with doctors to deliver fast, compassionate treatment.

You'll supervise technicians on shifts, participate in anesthesia and surgery support, and mentor junior staff while ensuring high standards of patient care and client service.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a veterinary technician in a leadership role.
  • Minimum 1 year of surgical anesthesia experience.
  • Strong people skills, including leadership, problem solving and communication.
  • Must be able to physically work the duties of a veterinary technician.

Responsibilities

  • Manage flow of shift by properly assigning shifts based on technician skill and caseload.
  • Ensure follow through by technicians on all cases and patient care.
  • Facilitate customer service, technician and doctor communication to ensure accurate and efficient completion of cases.

Job Summary:

Responsible for overseeing ER technicians and support staff on their assigned shifts. Registered veterinary technician preferred, but not required. They are expected to lead, manage, and hold all staff that report to them accountable. Responsibilities include: assigning case load, assessing patient care, acting as a liaison, assessing and providing training, ensuring compliance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in resolving client questions and concerns per PETS policy.
  • Supervision of daily tasks to ensure fair work distributions and completion of daily duties including client service, patient care, and housekeeping.
  • Oversee, lead, and mentor the emergency paraprofessional staff in a positive manner.
  • Partner with ER floor manager/Hospital Manager to provide cohesive and collaborative leadership to their shifts.
  • Take an active role in training and teaching team members on the floor.
  • Assist in solving client problems/concerns.
  • Setting the standard and modeling the standard for performance, professionalism, patient care and client service at all times while on shift.
  • Assist the management team with team member evaluations, feedback, and counseling/coaching when needed.
  • Regularly attend and actively participate in shift coordinator meetings.
  • Actively seek out and participate in CE (continuing education) and learning opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a veterinary technician in a leadership role.
