Job summary

SAGE Dublin is seeking a board-certified or residency-trained Veterinary Criticalist to join our established Emergency & Critical Care service in Dublin, CA. You will help manage high-acuity cases and work within a multispecialty team to provide outstanding patient care from day one.

As the second Criticalist, you will collaborate with Surgery, Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology, and Anesthesiology, while mentoring nurses and ER clinicians and shaping ICU protocols for ongoing

Qualifications

  • Board-certified or residency-trained Veterinary Criticalist with eligibility for California licensure.
  • Evidence of strong clinical skills and experience in high-acuity emergencies.
  • Ability to collaborate across multispecialty teams and mentor staff.

Responsibilities

  • Manage high-acuity emergency and ICU patients, including triage and stabilization.
  • Provide comprehensive care for complex medical and surgical cases.
  • Collaborate with Criticalist and Emergency teams to ensure continuity of care.

SAGE Dublin is seeking a board-certified or residency-trained Veterinary Criticalist to join our established and growing Emergency & Critical Care service. As a second Criticalist, you'll step into a mature specialty hospital with an established caseload, strong support, and an experienced multispecialty team—giving you the opportunity to focus on practicing excellent medicine from day one while helping shape the continued growth of the service.

Our team includes specialists in Surgery, Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Medical Oncology, and Anesthesiology, with additional collaboration available across the broader SAGE network. Specialists work side by side, share complex cases, and genuinely value one another's expertise.

SAGE Dublin is also an innovation-focused hospital and a frequent beta site for new tools and processes. With CT and ultrasound capabilities, high-flow nasal oxygen, VCM, TigerConnect communication, and a paperless EzyVet EMR, you'll have access to modern technology and workflows designed to support efficient, high-quality patient care.

In your day-to-day, you will:

  • Manage high-acuity emergency and ICU patients, including triage, stabilization, and ongoing critical care
  • Provide comprehensive care for complex medical and surgical patients requiring intensive monitoring and intervention
  • Collaborate closely with the existing Criticalist and Emergency team to provide continuity of care across the ICU
  • Work alongside Cardiology, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology, Anesthesiology, and other specialty services on complex cases
  • Utilize advanced critical care capabilities, including high-flow nasal oxygen and VCM, as clinically appropriate
  • Utilize upgraded CT, ultrasound, and other diagnostic technologies to support complex patient workups
  • Participate in interdisciplinary case rounds and collaborate on treatment plans with specialists across the hospital
  • Develop individualized treatment plans and communicate recommendations clearly with clients and referring veterinarians
  • Mentor veterinary nurses, ER clinicians, and support staff in advanced critical care techniques
  • Help refine ICU protocols, workflows, and standards of care
  • Contribute to the continued growth and development of the Emergency & Critical Care service
  • Participate in continuing education, mentorship, and professional development opportunities
  • Engage with SAGE's innovation-driven culture and opportunities to evaluate and implement emerging tools and processes
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative hospital culture built on clinical excellence, compassion, and teamwork

What You Bring

  • DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with eligibility for California veterinary licensure
  • Board Certification in Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (DACVECC) or residency trained in Emergency & Critical Care and board eligible
  • Strong clinical skills and a passion for managing complex, high-acuity patients
  • Excellent communication skills with a compassionate, client-centered approach
  • A collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for working within a multispecialty environment
  • An interest in mentorship, service development, or clinical leadership
  • A passion for continuous learning, innovation, and advancing specialty medicine
