Job description

Job Description

Colorado Animal Specialty & Emergency (CASE) is a large, multi-specialty, emergency and referral institution in beautiful Boulder, CO seeking a hospital-based, board-certified or residency-trained Veterinary Criticalist (ECC) to join our highly specialized, friendly, and skilled team.

Why Critical Care at CASE?
  • Advanced ICU capabilities built to match the complexity of cases you'll see: mechanical ventilation, high-flow oxygen therapy, therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE), and hemofiltration – this isn’t a department improvising with basic support, it’s one equipped for your sickest, most complex patients.
  • Extracorporeal therapies program on‑site, including hemodialysis, giving criticalists a full toolkit for renal and toxin cases without needing to refer out.
  • Robust in‑house laboratory with digital cytology and viscoelastic coagulation monitoring, so you get real‑time diagnostic answers instead of waiting on send‑outs during time‑sensitive cases.
  • 4‑way float radiography table, MRI, CT‑adjacent imaging support, and ultrasound readily available for critical patients requiring rapid diagnostics.
  • Collegial, tightly integrated specialty team – Surgery, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Nephrology/Urology, Ophthalmology, Dentistry & Oral Surgery – all under one roof, meaning true collaborative case management rather than working in a silo.
  • Cardiologist and Anesthesiologist joining the team in September; currently also hiring for Surgical Oncology.
  • High standard of care already established, with hospital leadership dedicated to supporting continued excellence in critical care.
  • Department leadership opportunities available immediately for the right candidate.
  • Supportive fee structure that allows criticalists to realize production goals.
CASE in Summary
  • A beautiful, 52,000 sq. ft. hospital, built in 2021, with an expansive, light‑filled, modern layout.
  • Advanced tools and treatments on‑site: linear accelerator, hemodialysis, endoscopy, in‑house lab, subcutaneous ureteral bypass, water treadmill, therapeutic and surgical lasers, minimally invasive procedures including laparoscopy and thoracoscopy, vascular interventions, and more.
  • Rotating and specialty internship program, currently training 3 surgical interns and 7 rotating interns – meaning you’ll have real support and teaching opportunities, not just extra hands.
  • Close collaboration with Ethos Discovery, actively contributing to six clinical trials on‑site.
  • Participation in specialty college governance and committees welcomed and supported.
Commitment to Learning & Development

Personal and professional development is fully supported – continuing education, research contributions, specialty‑college participation and leadership are all part of the culture here, not just a line in the job description.
