Job summary

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, seeks a full-time, term (clinical-track) faculty member to support clinical education of professional veterinary students. Rank will reflect qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will teach across the four-year curriculum, emphasizing didactic and laboratory surgical teaching, patient care, course development, and outcomes assessment, with opportunities to contribute to Clinical Skills lab

Qualifications

• DVM or equivalent degree.
• Three years of clinical practice experience in an academic, private practice, or shelter setting.
• State of Iowa Veterinary License on or before the first day of employment.
• Additional years of clinical experience (preferred).
• Documented surgical experiences in academic, private practice, or shelter settings (preferred).
• Documented experiences in didactic and/or clinical teaching (preferred).
• Documented post-graduate continuing education in surgery or shelter medicine and surgery (preferred).
• Advanced certifications (e.g., Fear Free) (preferred).
• Board certification or eligibility in AVMA or EBVS (preferred).
• An advanced degree (MS, PhD, or equivalent degree) (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Teach throughout all four years of the veterinary curriculum as part of the Surgery, Anesthesia, and Community Outreach team.
• Conduct didactic and laboratory surgical teaching, patient care, course organization and development, and outcomes assessment.
• Support clinical skill development in the Clinical Skills laboratory.
• Collaborate on clinical and educational research and institutional service.
• Occasional after-hours educational responsibilities shared with another faculty member.
