Job Description
The Veterinary Care Technician ? Urgent Care - provides high level patient care in a fast-paced, high patient load, 24/7, 365-day/year veterinary practice facility. Urgent Care Technicians focus on assisting faculty with assessment, treatment, and procedures related to quality patient care. The position requires detailed knowledge of biological parameters and value interpretation, ICU protocols, restraint techniques, ability to triage and take action in emergent situations as well as the ability to acquire vitals and monitoring hospitalized patients for changing needs. Must be able to communicate effectively with clients, administration, other technicians, and faculty. Should possess lab skills including working knowledge of lab equipment and protocols. Must be able to accurately track patient progress and keep proper documentation as well as effectively learn and use electronic medical record program. Some shifts may require use of anesthesia and radiological machines. Position responsible for maintaining clean and efficient work areas and performing \"end-of-shift\" duties which may include dust mopping, wet mopping, laundry, and trash removal. Technicians are expected to mentor and train new employees and participate in regular continuing education to maintain required state licensing. Requires state license issued by the Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board (OVMLB) and completion of a successful background check.
Minimum Education Required
Per Classified Civil Svc Specs or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Qualifications:
Required: Graduate of an AVMA accredited school; current active Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board (OVMLB) Registered Veterinary Technicians license/registration or able to obtain registration prior to start date.
Physical Requirements: lifting 40-50 pounds; risks involve exposure to animal dander, rabies, other zoonotic diseases, parasiticides, animal inflicted injuries, anesthetic gases, chemotherapy, gamma ray equipment, irritant chemicals.
