Job summary

The Ohio State University is hiring a Veterinary Care Assistant - Large Animal (Temp) for the Veterinary Medical Center. The role supports clinicians, staff and students in providing care to large animals, performing patient care tasks, and maintaining cleanliness and safety across the facility.

Responsibilities include patient assessment, restraint, treatments, transport, stocking, lab specimen collection, and training student employees.

Qualifications

• Must have large animal handling experience.
• One year of veterinary hospital or veterinary practice experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Comfort, groom, and care for hospitalized patients.
• Monitor patients and notify higher level tech or veterinarian of changes.
• Transport patients within the Veterinary Medical Center.
• Stock supplies including feed, medical supplies and equipment.
• Clean and disinfect treatment areas and housing units per sanitation rules.
• Carry out prescribed bedding and housing duties.
• Walk patients and provide clean housing, food, and water at all times.
• Perform daily cleaning of outdoor areas and VMC entrances.
• Clean all animal areas and notify supervisor of non-routine repairs.
• Assist with laundry and clerical tasks as needed.
• Assist in collection of lab specimens (blood, urine, feces) for testing.
• Assist in training student employees in prescribed care of animals.
• Other duties as assigned.
