Job summary

Upstate Veterinary Specialties is seeking a dedicated Veterinary Assistant Training Specialist to develop, train, and mentor our veterinary support staff. You will shape educational programs, collaborate with leadership, and promote excellence in patient care across the hospital.

You will design SOPs, training materials, and hands-on coaching, while supporting staff growth through our leveling program and RECOVER CPR initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Experience mentoring, training, or coaching others preferred.
  • RECOVER Rescuer Certification preferred.
  • Fear Free Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Train and mentor Veterinary Assistants across the hospital.
  • Develop SOPs, training guides, and educational resources.
  • Create presentations, videos, and digital learning materials for VetBloom and other platforms.
  • Assist with training on medical equipment and proper maintenance.
  • Collaborate with managers and technicians to monitor development and competency.
  • Roll out Train-the-Trainer programs and participate in hospital-wide initiatives.
  • Evaluate learning styles and tailor training methods to individuals.

Upstate Veterinary Specialties is seeking an experienced, motivated, and passionate Veterinary Assistant Training Specialist to help shape the future of our medical support team. In this role, you'll be responsible for developing, training, and mentoring Veterinary Assistants across the hospital while collaborating with leadership to create engaging educational programs that promote excellence in patient care.If you're an experienced Veterinary Assistant who enjoys teaching, mentoring, and helping others succeed, this is an exciting opportunity to make a lasting impact on both our team and our patients.What You'll Do:Train and mentor new Veterinary Assistants while supporting their progression through UVS's leveling programProvide hands-on instruction, coaching, and real-time feedback to medical support staffObserve workflows and provide on-the-spot coaching to reinforce best practices and hospital protocolsDevelop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), training guides, and educational resourcesAssist with training on medical equipment, troubleshooting, and proper maintenanceCollaborate with managers, shift leads, and key technicians to monitor employee development and competencySupport experienced Veterinary Assistants in advancing their technical skills and professional growthHelp create presentations, videos, and digital learning materials for VetBloom and other educational platformsParticipate in hospital-wide training initiatives and collaborate with multiple specialty departmentsAssist in developing "Train-the-Trainer" programs for departmental leadsServe as a mentor and educational resource for Veterinary Assistants throughout the hospitalEvaluate individual learning styles and tailor training methods to maximize successParticipate in the rollout and education of the RECOVER CPR initiative for both hospital staff and the veterinary communityMaintain current policies, procedures, and training materials to support continuous improvementParticipate in committees, special projects, and ongoing hospital initiativesContinue professional development through webinars, seminars, and cross-training opportunities within all UVS specialty servicesWhat We're Looking For:Experience & EducationPrevious experience mentoring, training, or coaching others preferredRECOVER Rescuer Certification preferredFear Free Certification preferredSkills & QualificationsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong leadership, coaching, and mentoring abilitiesAbility to present educational material clearly and effectivelyAdvanced technical veterinary assistant knowledge and equipment proficiencyStrong organizational and time management skillsAbility to multitask while maintaining attention to detailComfortable adapting training methods to different adult learning stylesSelf-motivated with the ability to work independentlyPositive attitude and ability to foster a collaborative learning environmentProfessional, approachable, and supportive demeanorProficiency with Microsoft Office and willingness to learn additional software platformsCommitment to Upstate Veterinary Specialties' core values of Dedication, Compassion, and KnowledgeSchedule:Full-TimeSunday–Wednesday | 8:00 AM – 6:00 PMFlexibility required to work at least two Wednesday shifts per month from 5:00 PM – 3:00 AM to support evening training initiativesAdditional flexibility may be required to accommodate occasional evening and weekend training needsPhysical Requirements:Ability to lift and carry patients or equipment weighing up to 50 poundsAbility to sit, stand, bend, and move throughout the workdayComfortable working extensively with computers, medical equipment, and training softwareAbility to work in a veterinary hospital environment with exposure to animal odors, noise, and bodily fluidsWhat We Offer:We are committed to supporting your professional growth while empowering you to develop the next generation of veterinary professionals.Competitive pay: $25.00–$32.00/hourPTO, 401(k), healthcare benefits, and moreOpportunities to influence hospital-wide education and training initiativesContinuing education through webinars, seminars, certifications, and professional developmentCross-training opportunities across all specialty departmentsCollaborative leadership team committed to employee growth and successEmployee appreciation events and a positive, team-focused cultureReady to Make a Difference?If you're passionate about veterinary medicine, education, and helping others grow, we'd love to have you join our team.
