Job summary

Faulkner Animal Hospital in Lancaster, SC seeks a compassionate Veterinary Assistant or Technician to join a collaborative small animal practice. You will support doctors with appointments, diagnostics, and treatments while maintaining patient welfare and client communication.

Qualifications

  • Experience in or interest in small animal veterinary medicine.
  • Comfort with patient restraint and handling.
  • Ability to document medical records accurately and manage exam rooms.
  • Interest in clinical skill development and learning.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians with appointments, diagnostics, and treatments.
  • Provide safe, compassionate patient restraint and handling.
  • Obtain patient histories and document medical records.
  • Prepare exam rooms and treatment areas.
  • Collect laboratory samples and assist with in-house diagnostics.
  • Administer medications and treatments as directed.
  • Assist with surgery, dentistry, anesthesia, and patient recovery.
  • Monitor hospitalized patients and communicate changes to the medical team.
  • Educate clients on medications, preventive care, and discharge instructions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient hospital.
  • Support an exceptional experience for every client and patient.

Schedule

Part-time | Mondays and Wednesdays + occasional weekends, holidays, and school breaks

Compensation: $15–$22/hour, based on experience

What You'll Do
  • Assist veterinarians with appointments, diagnostics, and treatments

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who brings clinical confidence, dependability, and a genuine passion for patient and client care. Veterinary medicine is hands‑on and fast‑paced, so you'll need to be comfortable balancing patient care, teamwork, and hospital priorities.

You'll be a strong fit if you are:

  • Experienced in or interested in small animal veterinary medicine
  • Confident with patient restraint, handling, and clinical support
  • Organized, dependable, and able to prioritize in a busy hospital
  • A strong communicator and collaborative teammate
  • Comfortable working independently while knowing when to ask for support
  • Committed to compassionate, low‑stress patient care
  • Eager to learn, grow, and contribute to a positive hospital culture

Veterinary Technicians with LVT, RVT, or CVT credentials are encouraged to apply; experienced non‑credentialed technicians are also welcome. Experience with laboratory diagnostics, radiology, dentistry, surgery, or anesthesia monitoring is a plus.

Physical & Hospital Environment

This is an active, hands‑on role requiring the ability to lift and restrain animals up to 50 pounds, stand and walk for extended periods, and frequently bend, kneel, reach, and move throughout the hospital. Team members should be comfortable safely handling animals of varying sizes and temperaments, including fearful or fractious patients, and working around animal dander, bodily fluids, cleaning products, medications, and other veterinary hospital materials while following appropriate safety, sanitation, and PPE protocols.
