Job summary

Broken Arrow Veterinary Hospital seeks a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians with patient care, monitor hospitalized pets, and assist with routine lab work. The role includes preparing patients for surgery, taking histories and vital signs, and educating clients on care plans.

The position offers a $500 sign-on bonus after 90 days and a pay range of $15–$19 per hour, with benefits and flexible schedules depending on full-time or part-time status.

Qualifications

• Ability to work on weekends as required
• Previous veterinary experience preferred
• Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds
• Practice OSHA safety techniques including proper PPE
• Basic math and the ability to calculate medication dosages
• Basic computer skills, familiarity with MS Office applications
• Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in the practice of veterinary medicine and surgery.
• Assist with outpatient exams by taking histories, vital signs, and weights and providing client education.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs during surgery.
• Obtain blood, stool, and other samples; perform in-house laboratory testing.
• Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following safety procedures.
• Provide basic animal handling and restrain animals during exams.
• Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments as directed.
• Clean and restock exam rooms and assist with equipment upkeep.
• Demonstrate warmth, courtesy, and professionalism in all interactions with clients and patients.
• Communicate with veterinarians and team members including client discussions and care plans.
